Wow that looks intriguing too. I've always wanted to build a muon detector with scrap metal and spare car parts. But I got discouraged when I saw how it is actually done…

Hmm but you can use cosmic rays to detect muons at amateur level, could you?
Sure, that is the idea. But it is not trivial to build a reasonable detection system. If you use scintillation as your sensitive process, then you need a reasonable amount of scintillating material and at least some photon-sensitive device; if you use ionization in a gas, you need a proper gas, an amplifier, and some more stuff to provide a high field… Too hard for a novice, although it is well at reach of whatever physics lab in high schools.
