Exhausted June 9, 2006

Today was the last day of the Collaboration Meeting, and we celebrated it with a soccer game in the evening… Indeed, the Hermitage Hotel offered a soccer court and it looked appealing to play a game there before leaving.

Of course, at 40 years of age and with no training, I could not expect to play well. I actually was sure I would feel sick at the end, and indeed that is how I feel now. All my muscles are aching… And my team lost 9 to 1!

Anyways, I was happy about my game. I did not play too bad in the end, although when you lose with that kind of score you cannot be too proud…

One excuse I have up my sleeve is that I spent most of the afternoon in the beach with Filippo, training him to throw the discus. I have been a discus thrower – a dilettante, for sure – in my early days, and I still have in the trunk of my car a couple of tools. We used the 1 kg discus today, the one women use. Filippo learned well, and he threw it at 7.5 meters after a few attempts. I was proud of him. But I also did my share, and by the time I arrived to the soccer court, I was already a bit drained physically!
