Sorry for my English-speaking readers, but this post is only useful to those who want to have a laugh, and maybe meditate on the issue of outreach in Science - and can read Italian. Thanks zerocold (http://zerocold.splinder.com), I got to read a master's thesis on Science communication, "Universe in a Doughnut: the Science of the Simpsons", by Marco Malaspina. It is a good read, and a well written dissertation about the science content of The Simpsons, and a discussion of the way science is communicated through that means. hIn the thesis I found the table on the left. It is a poll by BBC. Quite interesting, if you ask me… Homer Simpson is indeed quite popular, and George Bush, Jr. does not even make it to the list. And…. Where is Dick Feynman ? Hmmmmmmm…. Communication in Science. An issue for everybody doing science who also happens to own a brain, and use it from time to time.

UPDATE: oops. I had forgotten to give you the link to Malaspina's thesis. Here it is: http://xoomer.alice.it/aomala/simpsonscienza/tesi_simpson.pdf . Happy reading!
