Brief update August 13, 2006

The weather has been not too good these days in the alps. Today we managed to hike to a 2460m place, the Sillaner Hutte, overlooking most of Monte Popera, Croda Rossa, and the Tre Scarperi. A very nice view, and a walk which was just of the right length - not too demanding for Filippo, and varied enough that Mariarosa would not start bitching…
Unfortunately, my nights are not too starry. First, the full moon has prevented any serious deep sky observing… And the Perseid meteor shower was impossible to see these days due to the cloud cover. Only yesterday night could I wake up at 3AM to discover a starry sky. I put on something, walked downstairs, and looked for half an hour, seeing 35 meteors. I called it a night then, because I needed to sleep! Recovering from the jet-lag has been very hard, and I am still living on sleeping pills.
One more week, and I will be back to a pile of e-mail, two students wanting to graduate in a month, a talk to prepare for QCHS 06, and a whole new project with CMS.
