Iphigenia, I disagree with the fact that extreme politics attracts gays. What I think is that the nazists had a cult of the super-man, some sort of machism which is somehow contiguous with a sexual attraction to males.

Cheers,
T.

Right, right Anon. Point well taken. I have been discussing too much stuff not connected to physics lately... Sometimes I just can't resist.
Cheers,

I'm surprised at your surprise. The entire Nazi movement in Germany was like a gay rave party in Berlin on a grand scale. Just look at the costumes --- the Nazi regalia was like something from a San Francisco Mardi Gras. Look at people like Reinhard Heydrich; put him in a leather suit and he would fit into the gay scene in any German city. Gayness itself is based on getting a sexual thrill from subjecting oneself and others to the most extreme forms of humiliation the deviant mind can devise; is there any surprise in learning that much of the really extreme stuff that went on in the concentration camps had strong [homo]sexual] overtones?

There is a ton of literature on this stuff; the general understanding of "how could they have done it?" is based on the psychology of sexual perversion. How you can possibly say, "Oh well, the nazis are all gays, that's good because it will lead to greater acceptance of gays" is beyond belief. Surely it would make more sense to ask: what is it about extreme politics that attracts gays?"

Thomas, I agree - nothing new. But still, it made the headlines. As for me, I am interested in the psychological side of these right-wingers, and in the effect it makes on their followers. Today Galan and Calderoli, two italian politicians who had gone to Heider's funeral, were embarassed by the twist of the story and claimed newspapers had to stop discussing these personal matters....

Cheers,
T.

I did watch it Amara, yes it is a really good movie. And it is also rather accurate in how it paints the scene.

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pim_Fortuyn" rel="nofollow">Pim Fortuyn</a> was openly homosexual, so this is not really new.

Jörg Haider's death teaches us that drinking and driving is a bad combination. But that is not new neither.
