A few disturbing links follow.

  • Jeff reports of someone who does not believe in Einstein’s equation E=mc^2, claiming it was never proven, and that Einstein’s work was used to confuse matters and allow the US to gain a lead in the construction of the bomb. My goodness, maybe we should carry a gun for personal defence after all, with all these deranged individuals around….
  •   Angry Physics discusses the equation string theory = bush lover.  With disturbing sidelines on the use of fetuses and the study of Calabi-Yao manifolds.
  • Dave Bacon finds out he is obsessed by nihilism.
  • Alex Janssen decides the right use of the windows over his computer screens is to host vases of chili.
  • Lubos Motl discusses the Jovian atmosphere, asking the rethorical question:  “Should the predicted number of exo-women of color in this environment influence the selection of the right compactification before we actually count them?”

“My goodness, maybe we should carry a gun for personal defence after all, with all these deranged individuals around….”

That’s not a joke if you are a US resident, these days.🙂

First thing I heard after the Virginia Tech massacre was that if everybody in that school carried a gun they would have been counting less bodies at the end of the day !!!

“if everybody in that school carried a gun they would have been counting less bodies at the end of the day !!!”

Sure. And a few hundred more at the end of the year.

The equation “more guns around = fewer innocents killed” is one of those pinnacles reached by the evolution of intelligence… Like Bush and String theory.

Cheers,
T.

Congrats! You have achieved the same emotion based lack of objectivity as DUBBYA HISSELF. Guns areBAD. Killing babies is BAD. Imprison all NRA members and all scientists!

4. jeff - April 27, 2007

Riqui. Imprison only who breaks the law. Imprison scientists? Come now! NRA members? Don’t be childish.

5. jeff - April 27, 2007

Riqie. Sorry I typed your name wrong.

6. dorigo - April 27, 2007

Jeff, Riqie (who is a charming lady by the way) was being sarcastic… She actually is on your side of the debate on gun control, I am afraid🙂

Cheers,
T.

Jeff! It is called satire. Duh!

8. Alexander W. Janssen - April 27, 2007

Wooo, when I read the title “mixed nuts” in the first place… but yes, you could call me nutty so I fit into the same categories as the other people mentioned in your list😉

Thanks for the flowers… *grin*

Back to work.

Alex.

> “Should the predicted number of exo-women of color in this environment influence the selection of the right compactification before we actually count them?“

In our much less political-correctness-obsessed Europe, I’m sure that the most frequent reply would be “it depends; how cute they are?”

10. Alexander W. Janssen - April 27, 2007

Andrea: Depending on where you work (I work in IT; almost no women there!) that question wouldn’t even be raised.😉

scnr, Alex.

Riqie. Sarcasm? OK. I don’t know you so I fell for it. Indeed your sarcastic signal is perfectly mimmicked and swamped by real serious ant-scientific out-boasts that can be heard from right and left (and center). Anyway sorry

“The equation “more guns around = fewer innocents killed” is one of those pinnacles reached by the evolution of intelligence… Like Bush and String theory.”

I completely and utterly agree with you on this (those String theorists should be jailed🙂 ) – that was the intention of the three exclamation marks at the end of that comment of mine. What I don’t understand is the way the Americans think about the gun issue.
